Impressions about microsoft xbox one reveal, may 21st

“Xbox one” eh?
All in one, eh?
Everything you’ve ever needed gathered into one expensive & unfashionable piece of furniture.

1. Xbox one’s dashboard is very similar to the 360’s; it’s advertisement galore. The first thing you see when you boot up your gaming console is the kind of viral pop-ups you’d want blocked by an awesome ap like ad-block, only you can’t; it’s an xbox.

2. Xbox one lets you instantly watch the latest blockbusters. You can purchase hollywood productions in the blink of an eye. Instantly give away your money to the richest businesses. It’s easy!

3. Xbox one lets you video-chat with anyone in a second. Kinect is basically a camera that can potentially film you in your living-room at any given moment, 24/7. That sounds safe.

4. Xbox one can be controlled with a smartphone. If you want to fully control the console you bought, you also have to buy a smartphone. It helps the industry (to take your money).

5. Xbox one has voice-recognition. It instantly reacts to your voice. You can ask your xbox to show you the latest movies, latest music releases, you can even ask for specific movies (example given: Star Trek) and it will get it for you. I hope you like popular stuff, though; ‘cause if you ask for Tracy’s Fragments, Mirror Mask… or if you want to listen to some Pineapple Thief or Devin Townsend, you’re out of luck. Your xbox won’t speak your language.

(Note how nothing has been said about games yet.)

6. Xbox one is built out of the latest & best technology. That’s why it has a blu-ray drive. I wonder if it hurts microsoft’s officials when they have to proudly announce their console is built with a blu-ray drive. After all, their HD-dvd idea didn’t work so well. That being said; will the xbox one support xbox 360 games? Can a blu-ray drive read HD dvds? I doubt it…

7. They specifically mentioned the Star Trek movies during the presentation; and not just once. I wonder how much money they got to repeatedly mention it? I mean, they have to be aware of how popular these presentations are so… it’s good advertisement, isn’t it? A lot of people are watching; it’s the best opportunity to try and sell your products as much as possible.

8. Finally, they’re talking about games. They introduce EA sports by saying they’re “the world’s best creators”… Best creators? EA sports? I hope that’s a joke. EA’s basically been re-releasing the same games every year with barely any added features from a version to another; and they dare say they’re some of the best game creators world-wide? Didn’t they get voted the worst company of all time recently? I mean, I’ve played EA games. They’re always filled with bugs. EA is not the kind of company that makes games for gamers, they make games exclusively for profit. They just don’t care about quality; their games’ names sell and that’s all they need.

(They had an entire video presentation with the world’s best athletes talking about what it takes to make a game. The world’s best athletes don’t get out of their million-dollars worth residences to be filmed talking about the thrill of games out of charity. They got paid to do that. It’s just another way to manipulate the masses and another example of how low and pathetic EA is as a company.)

9. After EA’s pointless presentation, what do we talk about? Another sports game! Microsoft studio is proud to announce another Forza game. There again, barely any possible innovation if not for improved graphics and perhaps one or two new game modes, but racing games… are racing games. Pimp your ride in higher def. That’s all there is to it, really.

10. FINALLY they say one good thing about their new console: 15 exclusive games in the making, 8 of which are brand new franchises. I’m eager to know more about those. It takes a lot of guts to introduce new franchises nowadays since it seems people just want to buy the same stuff over and over again (a.k.a the 10 “different” call of duty games, the 20-ish Resident Evil games, all the super hero movies with the same stories & happy endings, etc.)

11. Back to television. They’re so proud to talk about TV on xbox. Connecting viewers to each other so they can gossip in a more efficient way, or proudly brag about the sport team they so happen to have chosen as their favourite is winning matches, etc. They call it “intelligent TV”. We all know just how intelligent television has made our generation.

12. TV still! A live action halo TV series. Who will direct it? Steven Spielberg. That guy. No one else. Now imagine a microsoft official calling Spielberg’s agent and asking if he’d be interested to work on a project based on a video game. Movies & TV series based on games are almost systematically failures. I would be willing to bet Spielberg wasn’t fond of the idea at first… but we’re talking about microsoft here. They have enough money to make anyone do anything. Now let me make another hypothesis; what if microsoft didn’t hire Spielberg for his talent, but rather for his name? You know. Picture two different products:
Halo series, directed by John Doe
Halo series, directed by Spielberg
Which one will you watch? Which one would you be willing to pay for?
There you go. That’s concentrating your efforts on profits, on how to get attention.

13. What’s next? Back to TV & sports again. NFL “allies” with xbox. “Xbox is going to revolutionize the football game like never before”. No they won’t. The sport won’t change. Football players are not going to somehow improve or modify how they play because they’re “allied” with xbox. How pretentious can one be? Why not just say things like they are: Xbox owners will be able to watch the same football game they always have, but the xbox will keep track of the seasons’ overall progress for them. That’s it. Don’t go spread bullshit about how you’re changing the world if you’re not. It’s like saying adding jelly to your peanut butter sandwich will transform your sandwich into the best gastronomic experience you could ever dream of and it will be served to you by your own personal idol with a private show & a winning lottery ticket. No, it won’t. It will just be the same sandwich; with jelly on it.

14. And for the big conclusion, they talked about the next Call of Duty. They mentioned the next instalment of this generic game in which you incarnate a generic soldier that will shoot terrorists in order to insure the USA’s prosperity. It’s the same old propaganda meant to brainwash people into believing war isn’t wrong and the US army are undeniably the good guys. Only now, there’s a dog.

I was under the impression they were supposed to talk about a new gaming console. They talked about games for what, 15 minutes tops? The rest of the time was filled with them jerking off about how amazing they are. Did you notice how they formulate their sentences, too? “We’re bringing to you what you’ve always wanted, what you’ve always needed; we’re making YOU the centre of entertainment”? If that’s not a wide load of bullshit, I don’t know what is. They’re making US the perfect vulnerable targets for their marketing schemes. They’re just attempting to rub us in the right way to make us believe that we need their new junk; that it’s the future, the one and only available option to you if you want to be normal and live a full life.

Not going to buy this “console”. Nnnnope. Not for me. I’ll stick to gaming companies that focus on gaming, thank you. Nintendo might not have “innovated” much during their last LIVE presentation, but at least, they talked about games.

I was working on a midi file yesterday, on the very light program Finale, and my macbook just turned itself off and didn’t want to turn back on. I went to the apple store today; turns out my mother board is fried and it would cost 600$ to get a new one.

For this 5 year old laptop.

Okay you know what, I used to think that apple-haters didn’t know what they were talking about, but seriously? Fuck them. No more apple products for me. Fuck ipods. Fuck imacs. Fuck apple. I’m throwing this piece of shit in the garbage and getting myself a PC god dammit. With 600$ I could get a machine twice as good as this old laptop.
